Illustration done for Gujarati Midday. The story is how merchants of food grains/sugar are planning a strike during the festival season to protest against the Govt's harassment through regular raids to stop hoarding.
This is my weekly column in Udayavani, Mumbai edition. It was nice writing in Kannada after a long gap. Nothing can equal the pride and pleasure of writing in Kannada! Uploading this as requested by some of my blogger friends. Would love the feedback, will help me to improve my writing.
Our opposition party BJP seems to be obsessed with long-forgotten Jinnah. After Advani's secular Jinnah comment backfired some years back now Jaswant Singh almost called Jinnah another father of the nation, equalling him to Gandhiji! And now the party is just talking about Jinnah. Wonder who'll take stock of Govt's actions on drought-like situation, swine-flu crisis, terror threat from Pakistan etc etc!
The Maharashtra govt has asked the mall owners to stop their season-end discount sale and tone down the sales promotions! The politicians come up with amazing ideas to control the spread of swine flu! And some of the politicians from the same parties refused to tone down the promotions of dahi-handi sponsored by them! Every vote counts!
Health Minister Azad is so amusing when he talks to the media. First he said the Rida(the first victim of swine flu) spread the virus to around 80 people while running around from one hospital to another. Then he said travellers brought this gift from abroad. He thought media is spreading the swine flu panic and soon he declared that 33% of Indians will have H1N1 in two years! Phew!
The latest on dope story is that BCCI has decided to back the cricketers.
The cricketers(Indian, ofcourse) feel reporting to WADA about their whereabouts regularly is an attack on their privacy and threat to the security cover also! Funnily, it's reported that senior cricketers are ready for the clause, but young cricketers are more concerned! I guess, young cricketers have more private moments to keep private!
Private airlines are threatening to go on strike if the govt doesn't bailout them! Vijay Mallyas of the corporate world want to live in style and want to build their brands in style without thinking about the cost-cutting!
